Image rights

Pictures come with their stories from their sources, and the rights stay with their owners.

We show the image as the source published it, at a size that serves reading rather than replacing the original, with a link to the original story beneath it.

We do not put a stock photograph under a real event. A story that reaches us without a picture from its source runs in a text-led layout — the gap is more honest than an image from somewhere else.

A rights holder who finds their picture here and wants it removed or credited can write to us from the contact page; it is handled the same day.
