Israeli Forces and Settlers Injure Four Palestinians During Olive Harvest Attacks in West Bank

Israeli settlers and military forces launched coordinated attacks against Palestinians across the occupied West Bank on Saturday, resulting in injuries to at least four individuals and targeting agricultural workers during the ongoing olive harvest season, according to a report by the Palestinian news agency Wafa. The incidents spanned multiple locations, highlighting a widespread pattern of violence affecting rural communities engaged in seasonal farming activities.
Near the city of Salfit, tensions escalated significantly when Israeli settlers severely beat Taysir al-Qaoud, a resident of Kafr al-Dik, north of his town. Following the assault, al-Qaoud was transported to a medical facility where he remained in stable condition. In the same vicinity, specifically in Wadi al-Shaer located east of Salfit city, Israeli settlers injured two additional Palestinians who were actively harvesting olives. These attacks coincided with raids conducted by settlers on the nearby village of Yasuf, further disrupting local security and agricultural operations.
Southwest of Nablus, Israeli forces carried out a raid on the town of Sarra, during which they severely beat a 33-year-old man. Emergency medical crews from the Red Crescent treated the victim at the scene before transferring him to a hospital for further care. Meanwhile, in al-Khader, situated south of Bethlehem, settlers protected by Israeli forces attacked a Palestinian family that was picking olives. The aggressors forced the family off their land, confiscated their harvest, and stole their farming tools, causing significant economic loss to the victims.
Violence also extended to areas near Ramallah, where settlers stoned Palestinian vehicles traveling between al-Mughayyir and Abu Falah, northeast of the city. The attack damaged several cars, posing risks to transportation and movement in the region. In Ras Karkar, Israeli forces detained Mohammad Hazem Samhan, aged 35, while he was harvesting olives. Authorities seized his farming tools as part of the operation. Additionally, in the al-Mughayyir Plain, similar detentions and confiscations were reported, underscoring the systematic nature of these disruptions.
To facilitate these operations and restrict movement, Israeli forces established new checkpoints at the entrances to several towns, including Sinjil, Turmus Ayya, Deir Abu Mashal, Yabrud, and Deir Dibwan. These measures have effectively limited access for residents and hindered the ability of farmers to reach their fields safely. The cumulative effect of these actions has created an environment of fear and instability for Palestinian communities dependent on agriculture for their livelihoods.
The timing of these incidents during the olive harvest season is particularly critical, as this period represents a vital economic activity for many families in the West Bank. The targeting of farmers and the destruction of property not only cause immediate physical harm but also threaten long-term food security and economic stability in the region. International observers and human rights organizations have frequently condemned such acts as violations of international law, yet the frequency of these attacks suggests a persistent lack of accountability and protection for civilians.
As the olive harvest continues, concerns remain high regarding the safety of agricultural workers and the potential for further escalation. The involvement of both settlers and military forces indicates a coordinated effort to exert control over land and resources, often at the expense of Palestinian rights and well-being. The situation underscores the urgent need for intervention to ensure the safety of civilians and the preservation of their livelihoods amidst ongoing conflict.
